Paramount Services reaches 100 franchisees

20 July 2008 - Paramount Services has reached the 100 franchisees mark.

Paramount Services general manager Paul Brown said the company now has its own offices in Auckland, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wellington and Christchurch helping franchisees throughout the country to operate and grow their businesses.

Besides having franchisees in its office locations named above, Paramount Services has franchisees in Whangarei, Thames, Paeroa, Matamata, Hamilton, Whakatane, Rotorua, Taupo, Gisborne, Napier and Hastings, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Nelson, Timaru, Oamaru, Wanaka, Alexandra and Dunedin.

Paul says Paramount Services franchisee numbers have grown steadily from 20 in 2004, to 28 in 2005, to 50 in 2006, to 72 in 2007 before reaching the 100 franchisee mark this year.

He said commercial cleaning was ideally suited to franchising because it offers clients the personal attention and commitment of an owner/operator franchisee with the support of an experienced and well-resourced franchisor.

Office paper recycling made easy

Office paper recycling service
4 March 2008 - Paramount Services has launched a paper recycling box which sits neatly under the desk of office workers. The box, which takes A4 sized flat sheets, is intended to make paper recycling easier and more convenient for desk workers.

Paramount Services managing director Galvin Bartlett says a lot of paper that could be recycled instead goes into landfill because people find it easier to throw the paper in the rubbish bin than walk it to an office recycling wheelie bin which may be on the other side of the office.

"A dedicated paper recycling box for each desk or workgroup can be emptied when it is full into the office recycling wheelie bin. The best process is to ban the normal waste bin by the desk and have only a paper recycling box or tray. Staff members are then required to place all other rubbish in appropriate bins placed strategically around the office."

Galvin says a well managed office waste process should reduce the landfill by 90 per cent. Paramount Services is committed to reducing waste and offers a comprehensive recycling service for paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, glass bottles and jars, aluminium, steel and tin cans and organic waste.

Paramount Services partners with Height Access Technology

Height access window cleaning
2 February 2008 - Paramount Services has partnered with industrial abseiling company Height Access Technology to bring clients the best of both worlds – a company with the specialist skills and equipment to clean windows on multi-storey buildings backed by a long-established, award-winning, nationwide commercial cleaning company with a 24 hour Customer Service Centre.

Paramount Services general manager franchise services Paul Brown says clients will receive much more than a standard window washing service from the Paramount Services and Height Access Technology team.

"For our clients we are proactive partners in building maintenance, providing a complimentary written Building Exterior Early Warning Report supported by diagrams and photographs of any problems or defects, such as substandard window seals, leaks and cracks, identified by our experienced technicians," said Mr Brown.

"Clients will also have the comfort of knowing that our window cleaning team is fully compliant with health & safety regulations and that we use eco-friendly cleaning products and ensure waste water is properly disposed of by wet vacuuming.

"As a property manager you know that a building that is kept clean and well-maintained will keep current tenants happy, attract new tenants when you need them, and minimise major repair work.

"Ours is a professional window cleaning team that you can rely on to keep your windows brilliantly clean and to spot potential issues before they become major expensive problems."

Jenny received her award at a glittering ceremony at Auckland’s Langham Hotel which showcased the best franchise businesses from around New Zealand.

"We work at being proactive," says Jenny. "It’s not just about doing any cleaning, you must also use your head and pre-empt any problems to avoid client complaints." Low staff turnover has also helped her business to succeed.

Paramount Services franchisees Kosta and Violeta Krstevska of Alviko Cleaning and Henry Chen and Shaleen Tang of C&T Bright were also finalists in the Business Services category and Paramount Franchise Services was one of three finalists for the Franchise System of the Year Award won by Fastway Couriers.

Paramount Services and Cleanup Group merge

Tauranga cleaning company
Galvin Bartlett & Trevor Byers
24 September 2007 – Paramount Services and Tauranga-based Cleanup Group have merged to extend coverage for nation-wide clients.

Paramount Services managing director Galvin Bartlett says the merger combines his company's strengths in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch with Cleanup Group’s strong customer base in North Island regional cities and Wellington.

"Our strategic intent is to extend our coverage for nation-wide clients with branches throughout the country." Combined, Paramount Services and the Cleanup Group have about 325 staff plus 60 franchise business owners with a further 300 staff serving about 800 clients throughout New Zealand.

Mr Bartlett said the merged company would be administered from Auckland where Paramount Services has well established accounting and support services. He said Paramount Services’ successful franchise model will be extended to Cleanup Group clients and staff.

Cleanup Group managing director Brett Hickisey said the company had grown rapidly since it was established in September 2001 by his parents-in-law Trevor and Linda Byers.

"We have grown a very successful family company with good staff but to get to the next level we needed more back office and support structures. This merger will allow the growth of both groups because we will be able to service nation-wide clients from well established bases."

As a former business franchisee owner Mr Hickisey said he was also impressed by the Paramount Services franchisee system which "is unique and encourages franchisees to grow."

Trevor Byers, who has 30 years' commercial cleaning industry experience, said the company merger was a merger of personal friendships with Galvin and Sue Bartlett, the couple who founded Paramount Services in 1979. "I've known Galvin and Sue Bartlett many years."

Paramount Services purchase of Cleanup Group follows its acquisition of Auckland-based commercial cleaning company Office & General in February 2005.

Mr Bartlett said commercial cleaning is ideally suited to franchising and he predicts that over the next decade more than 50 per cent of commercial cleaning in New Zealand will be serviced by franchisees.

Currently less than 10 per cent of New Zealand’s estimated $750 million per annum worth of commercial cleaning is franchised. The rest is split between multinationals, mid-sized companies and "ma and pa" cleaning businesses.

The Franchise New Zealand magazine & website estimates there are about 350 franchise systems in New Zealand and about 20,000 franchisees. A 2001 National Bank survey estimated the annual turnover of the franchise sector to be $10.4 billion with about 70,000 people working in franchised businesses.

Paramount Services reaches finals of Franchise Awards

30 October 2006 - Paramount Services Limited and Paramount franchisees Drale Cleaning Services Limited and Topline have all reached the finals of the Business Services category of the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards.

Paramount Services is one of four finalists in the Franchise System of the Year while Topline, owned by Ernie and Yvonne Becker, was a finalist in the Franchisee of the Year.

Convener of judges, Gael McDonald, professor of Business Ethics at Unitec, said a record number of entries for this year's awards had uncovered some outstanding examples of business practice excellence.

She said the growing acknowledgement and maturity of franchising in New Zealand meant the sector was now fostering the development of some truly world class enterprises.

"These are enterprises that benchmark themselves against like systems and process locally but could well rate at least as highly against international best practice standards across a number of industry sectors.

"That has made judging a very exacting process in itself this year and produced a very worthy listing of category award finalists."

Now in their 12th year, the Franchise Awards recognise and celebrate the highest performers in franchising, a sector now worth more than $10 billion to the New Zealand economy, and the proliferators of some of the country’s best known brands.

Paramount Services and Office & General Merge

1 February 2006 - Paramount Services Limited (PSL) and Office & General Cleaning Service Limited (O&G) will merge to form one of the largest wholly New Zealand owned building services companies.

Together the companies will operate under Paramount's national brand name and will use the expertise and systems of both organisations. For example while PSL and O&G both use the "T-Traccs" electronic staff monitoring system, O&G clients will have access to "PSQA"- Paramount’s web based QA System, which was launched in mid 2005. Paramount will gain a team which is second-to-none in its commitment to health and safety management and well known for its excellent process control.

Under the merger the entire O&G operational team - including the dedicated Special Works division - will become part of Paramount's Auckland cleaning operation. The expanded Paramount and the customers of both companies will benefit from this combination of skills and experience, and will create a formidable force in the building services market.

O&G Managing Director Garry Phillips said, "O&G's customers will continue to deal with the same Operational and Customer Services people. In addition, access to Paramount's innovative QA system will not only benefit our customers in maintaining and monitoring service performance but will help make the merger transition smoother."

Paramount Services Managing Director Galvin Bartlett said, "This is an exciting new era for us and we look forward to working with the O&G team and sharing the combined experience of over 36 years, the skills, knowledge and opportunities that this merger will undoubtedly bring. I am extremely proud that both companies are very much Kiwi owned and operated – becoming a rarity in our industry!"

As Paramount will be employing Office & General's current operational staff, including relevant management positions, O&G clients will continue to deal with the same personnel that they are currently.

Mr Bartlett said, "However, with the combined resources and systems we aim to improve our service and customer contact where possible. The fact that both companies share the same customer service and business philosophies, will enable us to form a positive synergy and strengthen our customer base."
