Wanaka leading the way in waste management

4 February 2012 - Here's an interesting story from TV3 Campbell Live about recycling in Wanaka.

They seem to be having success with their recycling programme. At Paramount we collect tonnes of waste from our commercial clients sites across New Zealand. Our goal is to reduce the amount that goes to landfill to zero.

Jonathan Watts NZ tour: Let's learn from China

Jonathan Watts when a billion chinese people jump
13 December 2011 - What does a commercial cleaning company have to do with China's environment? Paramount Services managing director Galvin Bartlett wants Kiwis to learn the environmental lessons from China's extraordinary development so is bringing journalist and author Jonathan Watts to New Zealand for a speaking tour in early 2012.

Watts is Asia environment correspondent for The Guardian newspaper. His book When a Billion Chinese Jump takes readers on a journey through an environment in China which is being damaged as a result of rapidly increasing consumerism and extraordinary technological advancement.

Watts will give public evening lectures in Auckland (Thursday 29 March), Taupo (Friday 30 March), Wellington (Monday 2 April) and Christchurch (Wednesday 4 April). He will also be the keynote speaker at the Sustainable Business Network one day conference in Auckland on Thursday 29 March. Bookings for public lectures can be made at EventFinder.co.nz (from Monday 19 December) and proceeds will be given to the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society of New Zealand.

Bartlett says Paramount Services is bringing Watts to New Zealand because his story about China's environmental degradation is a cautionary tale for New Zealanders. As a commercial cleaning company, Paramount Services is at the sharp end of waste disposal from 1,240 clients throughout New Zealand including 320 bank branches plus offices, schools, government departments, cinemas and shops.

Paramount Services has set a goal of "zero waste to landfill" from the sites it cleans. This goal is one of a broad set of initiatives to make cleaning more environmentally friendly – including daytime cleaning to reduce after-hours power usage, and Paramount Services developing its own Paramount Care range of environmentally safe cleaning products.

Paramount wins two Business Services Franchise Awards

Paramount wins Franchise Award
12 November 2011 - Paramount Services has won both the Franchise Accountants Best Business Services Franchise System and Best Business Services Franchisee at the Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards 2011/2012.

Auckland franchisee Spring Jiang won the Best Business Services Franchisee Award. Two other Paramount Services franchise businesses were finalists for this category – Michael and Samuel Park from Tauranga and Raymond and Lilian Zhang from Auckland.

"We're delighted because we won the Best Business Services Franchise System award last year and in 2008," said Paramount Services general manager Paul Brown. "Paramount Services franchisees have also won the Franchisee award twice before – and it is not getting any easier!"

Brown said consistent quality has been the key to the awards success. In the last six years 14 Paramount Services franchisees have been awards finalists.

The Franchise Awards were presented at an awards dinner just two nights after the Westpac Auckland Central Business Awards dinner run by the Auckland Chamber of Commerce where Paramount was a finalist in the Excellence in Service Delivery and Excellence in Business Leadership categories.
